Susan Neff

On Thursday, May 13, 2010, God welcomed home his newest angel, Susan Jean Brown Neff. Susan was 58 years old when she joined her Lord in Heaven. She was born November 8, 1951, in Marlin, Texas to Wilma (Billie) Jean and Reese Weldon Brown, Jr. Susan grew up in Tyler and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1970 and then from The University of Texas at Austin in 1974 with a degree in Education. While living back in Tyler, she met Tom Neff on a blind date, who, after his first glimpse of Susan, knew her to be the woman he would marry. They were married on August 14, 1976, and Susan was the love of Tom’s life for almost 34 years of marriage, and beyond.

Susan was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, a member of the Women’s Symphony League of Tyler, and a wonderful and committed mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a proud Texas Longhorn, she was devoted to her dog, Gracie, and some of her happiest moments were spent with her beloved grandsons. Susan’s proudest accomplishment was raising her three fine sons. Susan was a beautiful person, whose calm smile and quiet wisdom guided her sons throughout their lives, and she was a true and gentle partner to her husband.

November 2006, Susan was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer. Shortly there after, she was hospitalized for four months due to complications with the treatment she was receiving at the time. The doctors gave her a 5% chance of making it outside of the hospital walls. By the Grace of God, Susan vigorously fought those odds and was eventually back at home in Tyler... teaching herself to walk, talk, and eat all over again.

In May 2010, the Lord again beckoned for Susan. Susan left this world peacefully and gracefully surrounded by her beloved sons, husband, and friends. She's now in God's Kingdom with no more broken bones or suffering....and is smiling down on her family and friends.

I am Janice Newell's aunt in Austin, Texas. I did not know Susan very well but I always admired her and her quiet ways. She was a beautiful person and my heartfelt sympathy I would like to extend to her family.

Hey Guys,
I am truely sorry for your lose. I know that there is nothing anyone can say that is going to change things or make you feel any better. I really wish I could be with you guys this weekend but I will not be able to make it. I'm sorry. My heart is with the whole family and I love all of you.
To Susan,
You can rest now. You have raised 3 strong boys that are still learning from you right now. How be strong, how to love, and how to treasure all the best times in life. You have done a fine job. We love you.
